For US workers, today, March 15, 2022, represents how far into the year women must work to be paid what men were paid the previous year.
Of the three (3) countries I have lived and worked in, Canada remains the worst in compensation. What remains startling to me is the appalling pay gap that continues for marginalized women even in 2022 and all the unkept promises made by our politicians when they pursue our votes.
Do you know the wage gaps for marginalized women? The wage gap for us is so disparaging, we have our own Equal Pay Days.
What can you do to stop this injustice?
- Women must genuinely support other women and not only of your tribe. I say this as one who has experienced both prejudicial treatments and support from BIPOCS and non-BIPOCS. The reality is marginalized groups also foolishly discriminate each other.
- Compensate your employees what they should earn. We are overdue for the right wages with the additional perks and benefits given to non-BIPOCS.
- Write to your representatives to fix this injustice. Did you know that in 2019 the U.S. House of Representatives passed the “Paycheck Fairness Act” to help close the race and gender gaps in pay, but the Senate lets it sit?**
